The fall series of the Center for Research on Vermont's Research-in-Progress seminars begins Thursday, Sept. 24 with "Counting Vermont in the Twenty-first Century: The 2010 Census and Changes to Data on Our State and Communities." Frederick Schmidt, emeritus professor of Community Development and Applied Economics, and William "Chip" Sawyer, from the Center for Rural Studies, will discuss upcoming changes in how the census takes stock of our communities and what these changes mean.
The series continues on Wednesday, Sept. 30 when photographer/writer Karl Decker and writer Nancy Levine present, "The Tour Buses Don't Stop Here Any More: Social, Economic, and Environmental Changes in Small Vermont Towns." For the past six years, Decker and Levine have visited some thirty-five Vermont communities where they have interviewed residents about how they've coped with the serious issues their towns have faced. This lecture, which includes an introduction and conclusion by Vermont's troubadour Jon Gailmor, will reveal their findings.
Both lectures take place at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Lounge, Waterman Building. Read more about the series.
