I am writing to invite you to a Conversation on Enrollment and Success to be held on November 19th from 9am-2:15 pm in the Grand Maple Ballroom at Davis Center on the University of Vermont campus.
As you may know Vermont has one of the highest high school graduation rates in the country but at the same time has one of the lowest rates of high school graduates continuing on to college. UVM has partnered with the Vermont State Colleges, VSAC, and Campus Compact to shine attention on this problem. Given that Vermont has adopted the Common Core Standards and will be implementing the Smarter Balanced Assessments in the spring of 2015, we believe it represents an opportunity to come together and think creatively about how we might address this problem. The implementation of the Smarter Balanced Assessments represents an opportunity to begin a conversation on how K-12, higher education, business, and community groups can work together to increase the number of students enrolling and successfully completing college. The purpose of the conversation will be to become informed on the current state of affairs in Vermont and to come up with a set of next steps designed to increase enrollment and success in college for Vermont students.
To encourage a broad conversation on the topic we are inviting a number of key stakeholders throughout the state, which is why are contacting you. We hope you will be able to participate. If not, we would appreciate it if you could send a representative. A preliminary draft schedule of the event is attached.
To register for the event or if you have any questions please contact Chris Caswell at email@example.com by November 5th. I hope to see you soon.
