Hear what our current students and alumni have to say...

I chose CALS because it offered me the best possible major that I wanted. I enjoy the fact that our college is so small that you can get to know everyone within your first year here. As a Biological Sciences major I have several options for classes I can take which I really like. You get to know your professors in a small class environment." ~ H. Kulakowski, Biological Science

"CALS had a wide range of majors and concentrations for me to choose from. CALS also offered diverse course requirements. I love how there's such a wide range of courses that I can take that apply to my major. I would say to incoming CALS students that although your first two years are filled with pre-reqs that you will suffer through, your last two years are filled with interesting classes that you get to choose." ~ C. Schacher, Ecological Design, Environmental Sciences

This summer I had the provilege of participating in an internship at a small animal hospital in my hometown...I had the opportunity to observe many surgeries during this internship, including spays, neuters, mass removals, dental cleanings, and more. I was able to see the variety of surgeries that are performed in a small animal first hand, and I was also able to sit in on appointments with the hospital's clients...I was taught so much about working in an animal during this internship, and this knowledge will allow me to move forward in the field of Animal Science" ~ Alexandra Cerretani, Animal Science

"After graduation I was fortunate to continue an internship I had during college in the Yale University Genetics Department for the summer. Then, the following fall I was lucky enough to return to Burlington and earn a position as a clinical research coordinator for the Vermont Cancer Center working on clinical trials in women’s oncology. My background in Molecular Genetics was a perfect foundation. The small class sizes and interactions with all of my professors and advisor were invaluable to developing the social skills I needed for this job. After working for two and a half years, I will be pursuing graduate studies in a physician assistant program in Boston. I attribute my success so far to the amazing undergraduate experience I had in CALS and at UVM. The challenging coursework but constant support that I received from the faculty helped me to become the person I am. I am so grateful that I chose the path I did". ~ Erica Nuzzo, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

I chose CALS because I believed a degree in Dietetics would put me above the rest of my peers in the food industry. CALS is a great group of people, they really care about you. Try the Student Dietetics Association is you’re looking for a club.” ~ K. Bessette, Dietetics, Nutrition and Food Sciences

“Undergraduate research at UVM has been the best learning experience that I have encountered in college and has changed the way that I approach science and my education.” ~ Anonymous, Plant Biology

I recently completed a summer internship at the Planning & Zoning Department of Colchester, VT...This was an iunbelievable experience where I was able to apply what I learned as a CID major outside of the classroom and actually see my work make a difference through helping to improve local businesses in Colchester." ~ John Neri, Community and International Development

I want to be a veterinarian and the Animal Science program was exactly what I wanted to get for undergrad. I love all the opportunities that the Animal Science program offers and the relationships you build with faculty. I think that the University farm offers so much to students, like the CREAM program, and it has been an integral part of my UVM experience.” ~ M. Martin, Pre-vet, Animal Science

I really like the teachers, and people of CALS. Very friendly, helpful, fun, and interesting. Lots of interesting courses too! CALS is intense, and even then the advisers of CALS are so good and interested in helping that they can help you fit in what you want to do, like going abroad for the summer, fall, and part of the winter.”  ~ A. Grise, Pre-vet, Animal Science

“I have an excellent advisor. But when I want several opinions on my post undergrad life decisions I can drop into several of my professor’s offices. They always make time for me. It’s great to have that kind of support.” ~ Julia Hobson, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
