Resource Guide: Vermont New Farmer Network Member Organization
Middlebury College Organic Garden
The Middlebury College Organic Garden seeks to understand the challenges of making organic food more accessible, more affordable, and better tasting. We provide the opportunity for instruction and hands on experience at the garden site, and facilitate events, speakers, farm visits, and screenings related to food issues during the school year. Every summer, four Middlebury College students with an interest in sustainable agriculture become summer interns. They learn the ropes of sustainable farming under the guidance of the garden advisor, and visit local farmers who generously donate their time to speak with them about their agricultural systems. The garden plans to add two school year employment positions. The volunteer efforts of students and community members are essential to making the garden function during the school year. Visitors and volunteers are welcome any time. View our website at http://www.middlebury.edu/sustainability/food/mcog to learn more about our history, mission, alumni farmers, and garden reports. View our middfood blog to get updates on garden activities, hear the thoughts of students relating to sustainable agriculture, and join the discussion. Jay Leshinsky, the garden advisor, can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. The two student co-leaders can be reached at email@example.com.
