Introduction to Farm Financial Statements Tutorials

UVM Extension's Farm Business Management program has produce a series of short online tutorials to provide a basic understanding of farm financial statements. These 5-10 minute videos will provide education on the following topics:

  • the farm balance sheet,
  • developing a cash flow budget, and,
  • using an income statement to measure profitability.

Viewers will gain a basic understanding of farm financial vocabulary and learn how to prepare these statements that they can use to manage the success of the business.

UVM Extension Farm Business specialists will be available to work one-on-one with farmers on their finances. Bring your financial statements, records and questions for a 60-90-minute private meeting. Use the time to prepare the statements that will help manage the business. In this session, you can expect to develop an accurate balance sheet or budget for the farm. Managers should bring their most recent financial statements and records (internal accounting/budget statements for the farm or the IRS Schedule F for the most recent year) and a calculator.
