Introduction to Farm Financial Statements Tutorials

In January 2016, UVM Extension will be posting a series of short online tutorials to provide a basic understanding of farm financial statements. These 5-10 minute videos will provide education on the following topics:

  • the farm balance sheet,
  • developing a cash flow budget, and,
  • using an income statement to measure profitability.

Viewers will gain a basic understanding of farm financial vocabulary and learn how to prepare these statements that they can use to manage the success of the business.

When the tutorials are available, you will find links to the tutorials on this page.

Budget Clinics

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 23-March 17, 2016.
Locations: To be announced.
Registration fee: $25.
Sessions scheduled by appointment.

UVM Extension Farm Business specialists will be available to work one-on-one with farmers on their finances. Bring your financial statements, records and questions for a 60-90-minute private meeting. Use the time to prepare the statements that will help manage the business. In this session, you can expect to develop an accurate balance sheet or budget for the farm. Managers should bring their most recent financial statements and records (internal accounting/budget statements for the farm or the IRS Schedule F for the most recent year) and a calculator.

To request a disability-related accommodation to participate in this program, please contact Mark Cannella at 802-223-2389 three weeks ahead of your desired appointment date.
