Derek George (he/him) is an Independent Clinical Social Worker and an Alcohol and Drug Counselor licensed by the State of Vermont.  He has worked in University Counseling Centers and at UVM for many years and still loves meeting with students and helping them navigate this important time in their lives.  His educational background is a Master’s Degree in Social Work MSW. from Rutgers University and a Master’s of Divinity (MDiv) from Princeton Theological Seminary.  His undergraduate degree is in the humanities with coursework in English Language and Literature as well as Philosophy.  Derek brings a developmental approach to his work with students, encouraging curiosity about what has shaped their lives up to this point and where they would like their lives to go moving forward. Derek also does group therapy with students focused on coming to terms with and thriving despite stressors in family life during the student’s development.
