Juliana is exploring the interface between public policy, place-based education, and agriculture, and how power dynamics affect sustainability in the food system. She is interested in shifting paradigms related to food and consumption to support agroecological transitions and drive more just and sustainable supply chains in Brazil. Juliana is originally from Bogotá, Colombia, she has a bachelor’s in Biology and a master’s in Sociocultural Anthropology. She is pursuing a certificate in Ecological Economics and is affiliated with the Institute For Agroecology at UVM. Her Ph.D. is funded through Leadership for the Ecozoic, a program for transformative action research between McGill University and UVM. Juliana has been a schoolteacher in her beloved home country Colombia, and in the US, South Korea, Spain, and Trinidad and Tobago. Her favorite subject to teach is environmental sciences, especially transforming curricula to inspire politically engaged young activists. Juliana loves snorkeling, diving, sea turtles, arts, peace, love, and care.
