As usual when dealing with computers, the answer is, it depends.
It depends on whether your information is imported from the Student Information System (BANNER) or from the Human Resource System and whether or not you have requested information privacy.
If your information is imported from both sources and you have requested FERPA Privacy in the Student Information System, your Human Resource System privacy level is automatically upgraded to full privacy (which is represented by the value "Show None").
Further, how much of the information can be seen also depends on whether the person performing the search has authenticated to the directory service or not. However, no matter the level of privacy, if you authenticate to the directory service, you will be able to see all of your own information.
In the Student Information System (BANNER) privacy is granted if you make a request for privacy of the Registrar.
If you have requested Privacy of your information, then no one except you and the administrative staff who need the information can see any of your information.
If you have not requested Privacy of your information, then the world at large can see your name, what class you are in (Junior, Senior, etc), and your local telephone number. People who have authenticated to the directory service can also see your local address, the last term you attended, your college, and your major.
In the Human Resource System (HRS) three levels of privacy are available upon request to the Benefits/Payroll department. You can request that only your work information be visible, that none of your information be visible, or that all of your information be visible.
If you have requested no privacy, the world at large can see your name, your office telephone number, your office address, your department, and your position title. People who have authenticated to the directory service, can also see your home telephone number, your home address, your termination date, your date of hire, and the date of your last paycheck.
If you have requested only your work information be visible, the world at large can see the same information as above. However, people who have authenticated to the directory service can no longer see your home telephone number and address.
If you have requested complete privacy, then only you and the administrative staff who need it can see any of your information.
People who have information in both the Student Information System and the Human Resource System present a problem of how to determine whether they are primarily a Student or an Employee. The determination is made based on whether the HRS entry identifies you as a student or not.
The privacy level of the combined information is set based on the privacy level set in the system determined to be primary. The one exception to this rule is that if you have requested privacy in the Student Information System, your Human Resource System privacy level will be forced to full privacy (even if the Human Resource System is determined to be the primary information source).
You have the option of entering optional information about yourself on the UVM People page. If you choose to enter such optional information, that information is always searchable.
