Community Programs
Community Programs
The various information
technology units of the University of
Vermont support the Burlington, Vermont, and national communities in a
variety of ways. The World Community
Grid is one of the
activities we
support. UVM also hosts web sites for several nonprofit and
professional organizations whose members have ties to the University.
World Community Grid
The University of Vermont has become a partner of the
World
Community Grid, joining the IBM Corporation and a group of more
than 240 academic institutions, corporations, foundations, and
associations. The World Community Grid consolidates excess
computing capacity of its member organizations to support research on
solutions to major societal health and scientific problems such as
cancer research. UVM has formed teams of desktop computers that
will spend their idle time working on those major research
projects. See the "
Partners"
link off the World Community Grid web page for more details.
