Microsoft Campus Agreement Implementation Project

Microsoft Campus Agreement at the University of Vermont

UVM subscribes, through a consortium with other schools, to a Microsoft volume licensing program for the most commonly used Microsoft software (effective July 1, 2005). The Microsoft Campus Agreement program provides the latest releases of the following software for all University-owned computers, and for faculty and staff working at home:
  • Office Standard and Professional, for Windows and Macintosh
  • Windows operating system upgrades
  • Visual Studio
  • Certain specialized software
  • Microsoft eLearning Library (MELL)

The Computer Depot will install Office on all new Macintosh and Windows systems purchased by departments. Computing and Information Technology is working with Microsoft to develop convenient methods for distributing Office, Windows operating system upgrades, and other covered software. Work-at-home installations will always require purchase of inexpensive work-at-home media, also available from The Computer Depot.

If you are considering installing or upgrading covered software, please consult with your department's or college's information technology support team, if you have one. Upgrade policies and practices will be at the discretion of each college or department.  In particular, Windows operating system installations and upgrades should not be attempted without sufficient knowledge and experience. When you are ready to go ahead, please ask your department's or college's IT personnel to contact The Computer Depot to obtain access to the software.

This year (FY 2006), central funding will cover the difference between payments from previously participating units and the whole campus. The University's experience will be reviewed prior to our FY 2007 renewal date, and a decision will be made whether to continue the full Campus Agreement as well as how it will be funded.

Most students' computers are not covered by the University Campus Agreement. Students should contact their specific college or school to determine coverage.   Students are eligible for discounts under Microsoft's Select Agreement, and should contact the Computer Depot for more information.
