All University affiliates (students, faculty, and staff) are entitled to a Network ID and an email account with a standard email address. Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) creates Network IDs, standard email addresses, and email accounts for all affiliates automatically. The standard email address is used for all official University email communications. To use your account and standard email address, you must complete these easy steps:
If you are in one of the following units, you may have to take additional steps. Follow the links below for unit-specific email instructions:
Users of these departmental mail servers are encouraged to set the mail forwarding feature for either their standard UVM email address or their departmental address. By doing so, you will be able to receive official University communications addressed to your standard UVM address. For more information on mail forwarding and vacation messages follow the "to-do" links at right.
You do not have to request a Network ID. If you are a University affiliate, one has been created for you already. To activate your account, go to http://www.uvm.edu/account/ and follow the directions at that site.
Because people have many different working styles, ETS supports two primary methods for managing Email at UVM:
UVM's WebMail is available from any Internet-connected computer
- just go to https://webmail.uvm.edu/ in your
web browser. No configuration is required; all you need is a
web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari), your
UVM NetID, and your password. Webmail is a secure and simple
way to manage your mail, although you may not find it to be as fast
or as feature rich as the alternatives.

Dedicated Email Client:
People who handle large volumes of Email, who require features not available in WebMail, or who simply want a higher-performance Email solution will want to use a dedicated Email client. Although any IMAP-compliant Email client should work with UVM's mail servers, we recommend of one of the following three clients:
Filtering, Forwarding, Spam Management and Vacation Message options can be managed from the UVM NetworkID and Account Management page
