Installing the Traditional Banner Client
Installing the Traditional Banner Client (Microsoft Windows-Native):
Prerequisites:
Traditionally, Banner ran only on Microsoft Windows 95+ Operating Systems.
This version of Banner still is available and supported. The
following are prerequisites for running the Traditional Banner client:
Is the Traditional (Windows-native) Banner Client right for you?
- If your department already is using
Enhanced LAN Services (also known as "Gemini", or "NetWare file services")
then you are a candidate to use the traditional Windows-native Banner client.
For most on-campus staff, this is a reliable and fast solution for Banner
access.
- If you are accessing Banner from off-campus, from a non-Microsoft
Operating System, or from a department which does not use Enhanced LAN
Services, then Internet Native Banner (INB) or Citrix-based Banner are better
choices.
Installing the Traditional (Windows-native) Banner Client:
Once you have met the Prerequisites and logged in to Enhanced LAN Services,
follow these steps:
- Download the Banner Client installer for your version of Microsoft Windows
from http://www.uvm.edu/software/.
- Launch the installer you downloaded in step 1.

- The installation welcome screen will appear. Click "Next" to start
the installation. This should take only a few seconds, then you will be
returned to your desktop.
- Go to the "Start" menu, then select "run". In the "Open" field,
enter the following path:
\\gemini_sis_server\sisvol\banwin\b_signon\

Then click "OK"
- Provided that you logged in as previously instructed, an Explorer window
should open:

- -If you are running Windows 98, find the Blue STS icon labeled "banner_prod".
Right-click and drag this icon to your desktop, then release the right mouse
button and select "create shortcut here".
-If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, locate the gear-icon labeled "banner_prod.bat"
(the .bat extension may be hidden). Right-click and drag this icon to
your desktop, then release the right mouse button and select "create shortcut
here".
- Double-click the new shortcut you just created. The Banner login
dialog should appear:

- Happy Banner-ing!
