Israeli Fault Scarps



The Middle East is tectonically active and in the northern Galilee, there are many fault scarps cutting limestone. We selected a very well preserved, 10-meter high scarp to sample at high resolution using drill cores. 36Cl analysis of this limestone revealed a systematic increase in nuclide activity up the scarp. This allowed us to model ages of past off-set events using an optimization strategy.
