Israeli Erosion and Sediment Dynamics

The surficial geology of Israel preserves a deep and fascinating record of arid-region as well as lacustrine and near-shore processes. We have studied several sites for different reasons. On the shorelines of the paleo-Dead Sea, Lake Lisan, we have collected clasts with the intention of dating previous high stands of the Lake; in the end, we didn't learn as much about dates as about the history of the clasts. In the southern Negev, we sampled Nahal Yael to compare cosmogenic, millenial-scale rates of erosion with those estimated over decadal scales by Asher Schick and co-workers.
