Join Tom Wessels, book author, terrestrial ecologist, and professor at Antioch University New England, on a four-hour interpretative nature hike through one of northern Vermont's natural communities. Tom is well known throughout New England for his unique approach to understanding and appreciating the New England landscape through a synthesis of natural and cultural history, plant and soil ecology, geology, and personal narrative. Sunday July 12, 11 am to 3 pm. Participation is limited to 30 people, first-come, first serve. Transportation and a box lunch will be provided. Fee: $40.
Tom Wessels is the author of Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England (The Countryman Press, 1997). Other titles include The Granite Landscape: A Natural History of America's Mountain Domes, From Acadia to Yosemite (The Countryman Press, 2001), The Myth of Progress: Toward a Sustainable Future (University of Vermont Press, 2006), and Untamed Vermont (Thistle Hill Publications, 2003). Book signing will be from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm in the Silver Maple room.
