In November I wrote how impressed I am with the enthusiasm and energy of the faculty and staff and the strong collective desire to move the College forward. We continue to pursue new and reimagined majors and minors; a new first-year experience designed to help students become academically and socially engaged in the life of the College; and internship and study abroad experiences that are integrated into the curriculum. Professor Tuna Snider, Debate Mentor to Generations, Passes Away
Alfred C. “Tuna” Snider, the University of Vermont’s beloved debate team director and an international legend in the arena of academic argument, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2015. His obituary in The New York Times called him "one of the foremost debating teachers of his era." Read more.

For Arianna Jones (Class of '09), deputy communications director for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, life is no less hectic than it was five months ago in New York City as a producer on MSNBC’s The Ed Show. Materials Science and BioEngineering Faculty and Graduate Students Bring Sustainable Electronics Research to Vermont
This past December 2015 the UVM Materials Research Society (MRS) Chapter, in partnership with the Materials Science Program, organized the international workshop on Advanced Materials for Energy and Bioengineering Applications (AMEBA), which brought together experts in organic photovoltaics, bio-inspired electronics, flexible and bio-compatible materials. Study: Gender Quotas in Mexico Not Reduing Quality of Female Candidates
Caroline Beer, associate professor of political science, is lead author of a new study examining the impact of a series of gender quotas passed by Mexico to ensure equal representation in government shows no drop in the qualifications of women in office after two election cycles, and also refutes the widely held perception that women rely on personal connections more than men to get elected.
