By now you have noticed that the picture attached to this part of our eNewsletter is significantly different from those in past issues – allow me to explain the change and introduce myself. On January 25th, Eleanor M. Miller stepped down from her position as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and I began my appointment as Interim Dean the following day. Read more.
Spotlight on the History Department
I am pleased to say that the History Department at the University of Vermont had another very successful year, 2009-2010. In welcoming one new member, Okezi Otovo, to the department, we continued our tradition of hiring excellent young scholars and teachers from top doctoral programs. Read more.
Spotlight on the Art & Art History Department
Groundhog Day just passed and we were greeted with a two-day snowfall, making us feel intrepid in just getting to school. It’s still frigid outside, but inside Williams Hall things are sizzling as students ramp up their work in the studios and lecture rooms. Read more from department chair Bill McDowell.
Kalvin Hassell, a History major and Political Science minor, was asked to speak at the 2010 UVM Scholarship luncheon. Kalvin reflected on the program that brought him from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx to UVM and the impact this has had on his education and life.
Renderings of Billings Renovation Project
Plans for relocating Special Collections, the Center for Research on Vermont, and the Carolyn and Leonard Miller Center for Holocaust Studies into a renovated Billings Library are moving forward. Read more.
