Eleanor Miller If you are a frequent reader of the CAS E-Newsletter, you will recall that we have been profiling each of the natural sciences departments in the College of Arts and Sciences in successive CAS E-Newsletters and have in past issues focused on Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (http://www.uvm.edu/artsandsciences/?Page=enews/archives/default.html). In this issue we conclude our survey of the physical science departments in the College with an overview of the Department of Geology (next up: the Fine Arts -- beginning with the Theatre Department). Spotlight on the Geology Department

Char Mehrten As I begin to plan my fall 2010 TAP class on “Fossil Fuels and Climate Change,” the university is discussing potential future “spires of excellence” for UVM, and one proposal focuses on the environment. If our UVM faculty are any measure, it’s hard to identify another subject that focuses more on the environment than geology! Read more of Prof. Char Mehrten's message.

Associate Professor Krymkowski Appointed Associate Dean

Daniel Krymkowski As you know, after the death of Interim Associate Dean Glen S. Elder, Associate Professor of Sociology Daniel H. Krymkowski was appointed Interim Associate Dean in UVM’s College of Arts and Sciences. I am now pleased to announce his appointment as Associate Dean. Read more.

Economics Students Attend Fed Challenge

Fed Challenge Last October five students from the University of Vermont participated in the National Federal Reserve Collegiate Challenge. The competition is a national economics competition in which teams, representing their respective colleges, present on specific topics and questions to Federal Reserve members. Read more.
