I first posted the basic tutorial in 1998, for my students in Survey of Mass Media at the University of Vermont. The Male Gaze essay was first posted in 2002. They were both designed to work with limited computers on slow modems, so they use frames and javascript in a way that was effective back in the day but is now outdated. Yet many folks continue to use them, in my classes and in many other classes around the globe. So I have left them pretty much unchanged over the years (with the exception of adding this new front end in 2012).
