Week 2: Ways of
        Reading and Writing the News

        First, read about
        News
        Style:
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_style

Then read more about Inverted Pyramid news style
           (by Ken Blake,
Ph.D., at Middle Tennessee State University).

Next, read the following three news stories, all written
about some of the same events in April of 2003:

- “War in the Gulf: Street battles: Second city airport falls to forces sweeping aside Iraqi resistance: Counterattack fails but two US planes downed” The Gaurdian (London), April 9, 2003
 - “Marines Battle Their Way Toward Central Baghdad; Complex Occupied After Fierce Fight,” Washington Post, April 9, 2003
 - Peter Maas, "Good Kills," Sunday New York Times
             Magazine, April 20, 2003

For your posting this week (due before midnight on Sunday, Jan. 18th), identify the types of writing in each of the news articles, and compare the different ways of writing about specific war events in each.
Finally, read How to do a Frame Analysis, and start looking for a story that you will use in your frame analysis assignment, due on Feb. 6th.
