The most "local" scale of initiative is reflected in what each of us attempts to do. We admire some individuals because we see them constantly meeting new people, joining new groups, and choosing new experiences. They show the confidence to take risks and learn how to deal with challenging situations. If we are to show initiative, we must do the same.
Being a good listener may help us in conversations with new acquaintences and a smile mauy help ease uncomfortable situations.
Patience and understanding on our part may urge others to take a more yielding approach, and allow compromise to be a valuable tool in dealing with disagreements.
Demonstrating that we have the needed skills instills confidence in others that we can be valuable partners.
These qualities may help us show initiative on a more global scale, participating in projects such as the Clinton Global Initiative.
