A contributing structure within the South Union Street Historic District, 413-415 South Union Street is an east facing, two-and-a-half story, side-gable residential structure almost directly opposite Bay View Street's dead-end intersection into South Union Street.
While Vermont Historic Sites & Structure Survey [214] offers a circa 1892 construction for 413-415 South Union Street, the South Union Street Historic District's National Register of Historic Places nomination [215] seems to point in more tenable direction, suggesting a circa 1885 construction date. Also, a structure at 415 South Union Street is shown on the 1890 Hopkins map of Burlington. [216] In fact, the Burlington city directory lists Francis Hall, a laborer, at this address (415 South Union Street) in 1884-85. [217]
Both the National Register nomination [218] and Historic Sites & Structures Survey [219] refer to the residency of John J. Wright at this address beginning in 1893. City directories confirm, listing John J. Wright, manager of Baldwin Refrigerator Company, along with Miss Kate E. Wright at 415 South Union Street beginning in 1893. [220] Wright continues to be listed at this address at least through 1896, when he was described in the directory as owner of the College Street furniture firm of J.J. Wright & Company. [221]
