The electrodynamometer is used to measure currents and consists of one fixed and one coil that is free to rotate. The pointer Z' is displaced by the repulsion of the current in each winding and then returned to its initial position by turning knob S. The angle of the displacement is proportional to the square of the current. Electrical connections to the moving coils are made with cups of mercury. The scale reads to 400.
