Section Description

This hybrid course is designed to support counseling students in developing foundational competencies for work as counselors, school counselors, mental health counselors, child development specialists, child care providers, and preschool teachers. The course provides an introduction to the history, theoretical foundations, principles, and practice of play therapy. Emphasis is placed on the application of play therapy techniques with children, including children with disabilities. Course requirements include online readings and assignments, reflective journaling, intervention design activities, and analysis of video-based case studies. The in-person component features live demonstrations, guided discussions, and supervised skill practice.
