Section Description
The Summer 2026 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course is an intensive and comprehensive training program designed to prepare students to enter the pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) profession and successfully challenge the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam. This course meets or exceeds the National EMS Education Standards and supports eligibility for state licensure where NREMT certification is accepted.
Through a combination of didactic instruction, hands-on skills laboratories, and scenario-based training, students develop the foundational knowledge, technical skills, and clinical judgment required of entry-level EMTs. Course content includes patient assessment, airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support (BLS), medical and trauma emergencies, obstetrical and pediatric care, ambulance operations, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of the EMT.
Section Expectation
This six-week EMT course is an accelerated and rigorous program that requires consistent engagement, preparation, and professionalism. Due to the condensed format, students are expected to prioritize this course during its duration.
Attendance
Because of the intensive structure and hands-on skill requirements, attendance is mandatory. Students may miss no more than 8 hours of scheduled class time. Absences beyond this limit may result in dismissal from the course or inability to complete required competencies. All absences must be communicated promptly to the instructor. Missed material, labs, and competencies are the responsibility of the student to remediate, when permitted.
Preparation and Participation
Students are expected to:
Complete assigned readings and preparatory work prior to class
Arrive on time and ready to actively participate
Engage fully in labs, simulations, and scenario training
Demonstrate progressive competency in required skills
Professionalism
As future healthcare providers, students must maintain professional behavior at all times. This includes:
Respectful communication with peers, instructors, and simulated patients
Appropriate attire for skills labs and simulations
Adherence to safety standards and infection control practices
Ethical conduct consistent with EMS standards
Academic and Skills Performance
Students must successfully complete all written examinations, scenario evaluations, and required competencies to be eligible for course completion and NREMT testing.
This course moves quickly and builds daily on previous material. Students who stay engaged, practice consistently, and seek feedback early are most successful.
Evaluation
Graded Evaluations:
