Critically examines the current body of knowledge associated with the development of compassion fatigue and professional burnout. Students will evaluate and apply integrative health practices that promote nurse, healthcare provider, and patient wellness. With an emphasis on reflective practice, students will contribute to an environment that promotes self-care, personal health, and wellbeing for self and others.

Section Description

This online course critically examines the current body of knowledge associated with the development of compassion fatigue and professional burnout. Students will evaluate and apply integrative health practices that promote nurse, healthcare provider, and patient wellness. With an emphasis on reflective practice, students will contribute to an environment that promotes self-care, personal health, and wellbeing for self and others.

Section Expectation

upon completion of this course, the student will: Synthesize current and emerging evidence across disciplines contributing to compassion fatigue and professional burnout that inform stress reduction practices, promote self-care, personal health, and wellbeing. (1.3, 1.2f, 2.8h, 4.2f10.1c, 10.2h, g, 10.3l) Using the Health Care Improvement framework “quadruple aim” (improving population health, enhancing the care experience, reducing costs of care, and improving healthcare provider satisfaction) develop wellness and strength-based strategies to improve value-based care. (1.2f, 1.3f, 2.8g, 3.2d, 3.3e, 7.2g, 7.2h10.1 c/d, 10.2g) Implement evidence-based integrative health strategies that promote wellness and resilience-based strategies for self, colleagues, and patients. (2.1e, 9.2h) Design stress management strategies that can be applied to an organization to support patient and/or healthcare provider wellbeing that maximize cost effective, accessible, and equitable resources. health equity and justice related to the accessibility of self-care and wellness resources. (2.2h, 3.3e/f, 3.4f, 3.5h, 4.2g, 5.3h 10.1d10.9p/q) Critique one’s personal and professional practices in the context of compassionate care and nursing’s core values. ( 9.6e, 10.3l)
