Focuses on providing students basic knowledge and skills of event planning with real-life experiences. Topics covered include sponsorship, fundraising, marketing, promotions, branding, ticket operations, social media, event operations, and risk management in support of event production. Prerequisites: ENGL 1001, CDAE 1240, or Instructor permission.

Section Description
Course Description: This event planning course provides students with foundational knowledge and skills related to event planning for athletics through the lens of collegiate-level sport. Topics include sponsorship, fundraising, marketing, promotions, licensing and branding, ticket operations, social media, event operations, and risk management that support successful event production. Through presentations, guest speaker videos, readings, class discussions, and writing assignments, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the athletic event planning process. Throughout the semester, students are encouraged to continually ask themselves: How does this relate to athletic event planning? What would I do as an event planner? Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to: • Acquire foundational knowledge of event planning, fundraising, sponsorship, marketing, promotions, licensing and branding, staffing, ticket operations, and event management. • Apply and share skills and experiences throughout the event planning process. • Develop communication skills and networking abilities. • Experience professional and personal growth through applied learning. Modality Description: This is a fully online course. The course is highly self-directed, and consistent accountability and participation are essential to success. Reliable internet access, organization, and time management will support a positive learning experience. There are no required in-person or synchronous meetings, and the class does not meet on Teams at a scheduled time.
Evaluation
50% Class Attendance, Participation, and Engagement – Based on class attendance: logging on to the class, class discussions, and responses to classmates’ and the instructor’s postings. This includes responding to the questions directed towards you in the discussion forums AND your response to your fellow classmates’ questions and posts. 35% Written Assignments – The discussion posts and writing assignments as outlined will be an important part of your overall grade. There will be a 5-point deduction for each day the assignment is past due. 15% Final Assignment – TBD, due the last day
