Suzanne Drolet has been teaching at UVM since 1987. She completed her B.A. in French at UVM and earned a Diplôme Supérieur des Etudes Etrangères from the Université de Haute Bretagne in Rennes, France. She then returned to Vermont where she was awarded a two-year teaching assistantship, during which time she completed her M.A. in French. The title of her thesis is Consuelo: la lutte pour la liberté, a thematic study of the George Sand novel. The years she spent studying in France while living with her mother’s family made her realize the value of a study abroad experience. Suzanne encourages all her students to consider spending a semester or an academic year in a French-speaking country and has written many letters of recommendation over the years on their behalf.

 

When she is not teaching, Suzanne enjoys being a student of language herself and has been studying Norwegian since 1996. This has helped her understand some of the difficulties and frustration students must overcome. Her other interests include outdoor sports and activities - particularly alpine and Nordic skiing, ice hockey, hiking and gardening.
