We are so excited to introduce our audience to WindSync—an extraordinary young ensemble who are performing masterworks of the wind quintet repertoire, adapting beloved music to their instrumentation, and commissioning new works by today’s most celebrated composers. They perform standing, and from memory, creating a truly intimate and unique connection with the audience. This is the wind ensemble to equal the power of Lane favorites, the Imani Winds. Featuring Garrett Hudson on flute and piccolo, Emily Tsai on oboe and English horn, Graeme Steele Johnson on clarinet, Kara LaMoure on bassoon, and Anni Hochhalter on French horn, the group are the winners of the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They were also the 2018 finalists at the M-Prize Chamber Arts, perhaps now the most prestigious competition in the chamber music world. Their album All Worlds, All Times was released on Bright Shiny Things in 2022, debuting at no. 2 on the Billboard Traditional Classical charts. For us, they will perform a thrilling program of Mozart, Buxtehude, and recently commissioned pieces by Miguel del Aguila, Marc Mellits, and Viet Cuong (all VT premieres). Thematically, the pieces are filled with loops and variations, reflecting patterns in nature, numbers, and music that inspired the composers.
