Lane Series: Dover String Quartet
We have had a lot of exceptional string quartets on the Lane Series (including this past year¿s Ariel and Isidore), so it is hard to pick a favorite. But the Dover has graced our stage twice, and as you will see, it is for the best of reasons¿ they are truly something special. Hailed as ¿the next Guarneri,¿ the group¿s awards include a stunning sweep of all prizes at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand and first prizes at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition. The ensemble¿s prestigious honors include the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Chamber Music America¿s Cleveland Quartet Award, and Lincoln Center¿s Hunt Family Award. Honestly, as impressive as all of this is, you just have to hear them play to understand the power and intelligence of their musicianship. Their program for us will include Haydn¿s String Quartet Op. 74, No. 3 ¿Rider;¿ Florence Price¿s String Quartet No. 1; and Schubert¿s masterwork, ¿Death and the Maiden.¿
