CTL Favorite Resources on Accessibility

On this page, we're sharing some resources related to the topic of accessibility and disability that we've found educational and inspirational.

Stephanie Kerschbaum, Professor, English
Director, Program in Writing and Rhetoric
University of Washington

In this 5 minute video of Dr. Kerschbaum reading from her book Toward a New Rhetoric of Difference she describes that "...difference is not presentable through categories or static across time and space. Instead, it is dynamic, it is relational, and it is emergent."

From the University of Denver Office of Teaching and Learning, Disability Pedagogy and Accessibility provides a good overview of the topic and includes a glossary of acceptable (and less acceptable) terms and language related to disability.

"Write helpful alt text to describe images" from Harvard's Digital Accessibility site shows helpful examples of meaningful image descriptions for photos, icons, illustrations, and diagrams.
