Academic Integrity & Copyright Policy Agreement

As a reminder to students to view and agree to the University's Code of Academic Integrity and Copyright Policy, you can provide them with a 2-question "test" in Blackboard. The instructions for installing the test in your course are below. This a preview of the questions in the test:

  1. Question 1: I have downloaded, read, and will abide by the University of Vermont's academic integrity policy, linked here:
Download Code of Academic Integrity Test [yes] or [no]
  2. I have read and will abide by the copyright policy that follows:

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17 United States Code), governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions and circumstances, copyright protected materials are allowed to be reproduced in a limited manner for educational purposes. One condition for such reproduction is that the copyright protected works not be further reproduced or used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. The materials that are a part of this course, and to which you have access as student in this course, may be protected by copyright.

By accessing this material, you agree that you will not make any attempt to copy, download or transmit these materials and acknowledge that, if you do copy, download or transmit these materials you may be violating the copyright laws of the United States.
    [yes] or [no]

Note: If the student selects "no," they will see the following feedback:
You have chosen not to abide by UVM's [whichever one applies] policy.
Your instructor will contact you regarding this soon.

How to Add the Test to Your Course

A. The first steps are to download the zip file and then import it into your course:

  1. Download the zip file » HERE (Important: leave it as a .zip file; do not unzip or extract it. If you are using Safari browser, you may need to use Firefox or Chrome instead because Safari may unzip the file in the downloading process. An unzipped file will not work.)
  2. Note where the file was downloaded to on your computer. Its title is
    "Test_ExportFile_CTL_TRAINING_006_20130506_Academic Integrity & Copyright"
  3. In your Blackboard Course go to Control Panel > Course Tools >Tests, Surveys, and Pools.
  4. Click into the Tests area > from there, click the "Import Test" button > Browse My Computer > select the zip file you just downloaded, click "Open" and "Submit."

B. The next step is to "deploy" the test in your course so students have access to it:

  1. Go to a Content Area, such as Syllabus.
  2. Click the "Assessments" button and choose "Test."
  3. You should see Academic Integrity and Copyright Policies listed. Select it and click "Submit."
  4. You should now be on the "Test Options" page. Here, under Section 2. click "Yes" next to "make the Link Available."
  5. Scroll to Section 5 and UN-check "Include this Test in Grade Center Score Calculations" (assuming you don't want student to receive credit for it towards their grade).
  6. Under Section 6, you can click "All Answers" in the upper row
  7. Click "Submit."

To verify that students have opened the file and answered yes to both questions, go to the Grade Center. In the column that Bb automatically created for this test, you should see a "2" for tests completed correctly. (1 point per question). No grade means they have not taken the test. A grade lower than 2 means they did not agree to the policies.

Again, these points will not be included in their Grade Center total if you followed Step 5, above.
