Overview:
The
course covers history of human settlement patterns and models of development
with examples from Vermont and elsewhere; the impact of transportation on our
villages and neighborhoods; the implications of current trends in architecture
and planning; a discussion of methods and materials used in design and
construction; and the use and application of sustainability concepts on
community design.
This
is both a lecture and studio course with individual and team projects. We use a specific Vermont municipality as
case study and community design project.
Assignments include a number of small and large design projects, class
presentations, short papers and field trips.
