Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies

Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies at UVM is an interdisciplinary program devoted to the study of gender and sexuality as fundamental categories of social and cultural analysis. Gender (the social meaning of the distinction among sexes ) and sexuality (sexual identities, discourses, and institutions) are studied as they intersect with class, race, ethnicity, dis-ability, nationality and transnational movements.Offering the B.A. and two distinct minors, the GSWS program is both a scholarly discipline and a unique meeting place where students and faculty from acrossthecampus to study the diversity of human experience. Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies courses are generally smalland designed to allow the fullest participation of students in an inclusive atmosphere that values cultural, political, and personal differences among students. GSWS majors organize their upper-level concentrations t pursue their personal goals and are encouraged to complete a related internship.
