Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies affiliated faculty and the director encourage shared involvement and intellectual community with our students. As a declared GSWS major/minor or SGIS minor you will be assigned an advisor affiliated with the GSWS Program. GSWS and SGIS students can also reach out to the GSWS director and CAS staff for additional advising support. Drop-in advising sessions are also offered each semester prior to registration.

First-Year Programs

First-Year Seminars

  • FYS are writing-intensive, elective programs for first-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • FYS combine an interactive course environment with careful academic advising.
  • First-Year Seminars fulfill the University's Writing and Information Literacy Requirement and many also satisfy one of the College’s Distribution Requirements (Fine Arts, Humanities, Natural Science, or Social Science).
  • The FYS professor becomes an additional resource to the student’s professional advisor, helping to further explore a student's interests and academic goals.
