Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies

Requirements for the GSWS/WGST Major are changing:

A total of thirty-six hours are required for the major:

  • For students entering CAS on or after Fall 2014: Thirty-six hours are required for the major. (a) Core (fifteen credits): GSWS 001, 100, 105, 200, and 191 or 192. (b) Electives (six credits): One additional race/ethnicity course beyond the college’s requirement and one additional non-European culture course beyond the college’s requirement. (c) Concentration (fifteen credits): five approved GSWS electives, at least four of which are at or above the 100-level. Courses in the concentration will typically proceed along either a social science track or a humanities track. Other tracks are possible with the approval of the major advisor.

  • For students entering CAS before Fall 2014: A total of thirty-six credits (twelve courses) are required for the major. (a) Core (twelve credits): WGST 073/GSWS 001, WGST 101/GSWS 150, WGST 273/GSWS 200, and 191 or 192. (b) Electives (nine credits): One additional race/ethnicity course beyond the college’s requirement, one additional non-European culture course beyond the college’s requirement and any one course in fine arts or humanities cross-listed with Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. (c) Concentration (fifteen credits): An individually designed concentration consisting of five approved Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies electives, at least four of which are at or above the 100-level.
