OUTSTANDING SENIOR IN WOMEN'S AND GENDER STUDIES
The Women's and Gender Studies Program emphasizes the combination of theory and activism. This award honors the student who best embodies this value.

2008 Recipient: Emily Franz
Emily, a leader in the Feminist Majority student club, has organized a candlelight vigil for campus safety, and has worked closely with Men for Change.

ELLEN HAMILTON AND LIDA MASON AWARD FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
The award is named after the first women inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Both were UVM graduates (class of 1875).

2008 Recipient: Amanda Sutherland
Amanda is in the Honors College, a double major in Women's and Gender Studies and Political Science, and a recent Phi Beta Kappa inductee who plans to attend law school.

2007 Recipient: Allyson D. Black-Foley
A double major in Women's and Gender Studies and Environmental Studies with a minor in Political Science, Allyson Black-Foley has been an active SGA senator and Director of Alternative Spring Break

2007 Recipient: Jessica A. Butt
Jessica Butt is a Women's and Gender Studies major with minors in Theater and Vermont Studies.  She is a member of Triota and Golden Key Honors Societies, and volunteers at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR IN WOMEN'S AND GENDER STUDIES

2006 Recipient: Lauren M. Barnett

Lauren Barnett is a double major in Women's and Gender Studies and English and a double minor in ALANA Studies and Studio Art. She is a member of the Dewey Honors Program, and is the author of an Honors thesis. Her activism includes volunteer work for Planned Parenthood, Student Legal Services, and the Vermont Commission on Women.

2006 Recipient: Christina H. Churchill
Christina Churchill is a double major in Women's and Gender Studies and English.  The author of an Honors thesis, Christina Churchill is also an outstanding activist on behalf of women and persons with disabilities on campus and in the community.
