Dennis Sparling, UVM Catamount, 1998
|
|
Sculptor Dennis Sparling created a life-size bronze rendering of the UVM mascot
- the legendary catamount- a gift of The Class of 1998. This centrally sited work is
placed outside of the UVM Bookstore near the information kiosk. The UVM Catamount
bears favorable comparison with the Princeton University Tiger and especially the
Middlebury College Panther , the latter also dramatically presented perched on a
rocky mount. An example of the previously thought extinct Catamount can be seen
in the Natural History Collection in the Marsh Life Sciences Building.
