Mission of VSC America Reads
The mission of the Vermont State Colleges America Reads Program is to foster the love of reading and provide children with additional one-on-one practice with reading.

Goals of VSC America Reads
The overall goal of the America Reads program, like that of the VT Comprehensive Early Reading Plan, is to ensure that every child can read well and independently by the third grade. The program promotes the development of sustained, one-on-one relationships between reading partners and children. America Reads is a national effort in which VT has taken a leadership role in emphasizing the importance of high-quality training and coordination to have the greatest positive impact on literacy.

The VSC trained 116 Reading Partners in the fall of 1997 and an additional 74 in the spring of 1998
