Organizations, agencies and businesses
in Vermont have responded to the America Reads & Counts Challenge,
each from their unique perspective utilizing current resources. The overall
goal of the America Reads & Counts effort in Vermont is to focus energy
and effort toward supporting early literacy development. Vermont
programs promote providing increased opportunities for children to participate
in enjoyable experiences with high quality literature and trained volunteers.
The overall goal of these programs aligns with the National goal of ensuring
that every child can read well and independently by the third grade.
This has resulted in increased recruitment, training and placement of literacy
volunteers throughout the state. Vermont has taken a leadership role in
emphasizing the importance of high quality training and coordination of
efforts within and across programs throughout the state. |
