Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) clinical focus area includes:- ASD Differential Diagnosis Training and Tools: The Autism Diagnosis Observation Scale (ADOS) and Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R) three day trainings are provided. Other tools trained include the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT), Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ), DSM-IV criteria, and Communication and Symbolic Behavior Scales Developmental Profile (CSBS-DP).
- Joint Attention Parent Training: Two protocols for providing parent training in Joint Attention (Whalen/Kasari, & Schertz) are taught. Working with a family with a young child with ASD, the trainee/fellow chooses one protocol to use. Direct work with the parents and child continues for the academic year.
- Evidence-Based Intervention Practicum: The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) and Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) are trained and implemented with a young child with ASD. Working throughout the academic year, an intervention plan is designed and implemented by the trainee/fellow. Intervention may occur in the home, in childcare or EEE settings.
- Community Training on ASD intervention: Working collaboratively with other ASD trainee/fellows, a PowerPoint presentation is developed on a specific ASD intervention. Each trainee/fellow will provide one training in their community on this intervention.
