Instant Runoff Voting Report
On March 7, 2006 the city of Burlington, Vermont utilized an instant run off voting system (IRV) to select its mayor. Since then The Vermont Legislative Research Shop has formulated a report on the election based on its own independent exit polling and VLRS supervisor Professor Anthony Gierzynski has published a case study in Campaigns & Elections magazine examining the election. Also below is an analysis (a VLRS collaboration) of the 2009 Burlington mayoral election which identifies a number of failures of IRV.
