Northeastern Open Atlatl Championships
Bring the whole family and help us kick off Vermont Archaeology Week at the second annual regional atlatl (spear throwing) contest! Demonstrations of stone tool making as well as other early Native American life skills and crafts.

"Forrest Frunk, What's Under That Great Big Stump?"
Slide presentation, reading from a 'work in progress', followed by questions and comments. The presentation will encompass writing books for kids and families using archaeological fieldwork/hypotheses as a starting point. Reading will be from "Forrest Frunk, What's Under That Great Big Stump?", a work in progress that addresses how people, plants, and animals have survived winters in Vermont for thousands of years - from deer hides to solar panels.

A guided hike up Bolles Brook Hollow in Woodford and Glasten bury to site of the abandoned village of South Glastenbury; thence tour of cellarholes, railroad right-of-way, and remains of 13 charcoal kilns. An easy 1.5 mile hike with some bushwhacking.

Location: North on Harbor Road and Forest Road 288, where hike starts. Parking space very limited at trailhead. Bring drinking water, bug spray, walking sticks, and wear comfortable hiking shoes. No bathroom facilities but lots of trees.
