Champlain Valley Heritage Corridor

WHEREAS:   The Vermont Archaeological Society seeks to foster archaeological study and research, and to educate the public in understanding its heritage as reflected in archaeological resources, and;

WHEREAS: The National Park Service, at the request of Senator Jeffords, has completed a report that finds the Heritage Resources of the Champlain Valley to be unique and highly significant, meriting additional federal support for their study, protection and interpretation, and;

WHEREAS: Federal financial and technical support is needed for the local organizations working with the archaeological and historic resources within the Champlain Valley, and this support could flow from the establishment of a National Heritage Corridor;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that: The Vermont Archaeological Society concurs with the conclusions of the Champlain Valley Heritage Corridor Report, congratulates Senator Jeffords for initiating this work, supports the establishment of a  Champlain Valley National Heritage Corridor, resolves to play an active role in implementing the National Heritage Corridor, and further urges all other locally based organizations to actively participate in this endeavor.
