Vermont Heritage Network: Historic Architecture

Vermont State House, Montpelier

Open to visitors year-round, the State House (designed by Thomas Silloway and constructed in 1859) serves as the seat of government.  The Legislature is in session from January to April.  The collection consists of portraits of former governors, military people from Vermont, bronze plaques commemorating significant events, and Civil War paintings.  Although the State House is open year round, visitor hours vary seasonally.
