Chartered in 1777, Tinmouth relied upon various industries throughout its history. Early residents were involved in iron mining. Grist mills, saw mills, and tanneries operated during the early 19th century. An elaborate Federal residence built for a local farmer and merchant is one of the significant buildings in the district.
