Rutland Downtown Historic District

Rutland's downtown boomed with the marble industry after 1850. By 1880 the city's population had tripled. Marble was used extensively in the construction or embellishment of many architecturally significant buildings. Since 1976 a great deal of restoration has been accomplished. Significant buildings include the Rutland Savings Bank, the Opera House, the Gryphon Building, and Merchants Row.
