Originally known as Jacob's Stand, the Library was the most northerly station on the Connecticut River route of the Underground Railroad. Built in 1846, it is a fine example of a Neo-Palladian temple-form house. It has been used as a library since 1930, when the property was donated to the town by Alice M. Ward.
