In light of the weather conditions forecast for Sunday, Aug. 28, and the state of emergency declared by the Governor, the University of Vermont will be closed effective 8 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28 until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. All classes and offices (including College of Medicine) are cancelled for Monday, Aug. 29 and will resume Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. Additional information will be forthcoming in an email communication.

Our campus services and public safety crews, residence hall staff, and dining staff will be on duty throughout. All emergency and emergency support personnel, as determined by their supervisors, will be expected to report to work as requested.

The university has sufficient supplies of water and food. These are entirely precautionary measures to protect the safety of our community and allow us to be able to respond adequately to any damage that may result from the winds and heavy rain produced from Hurricane Irene.

All are encouraged to follow the safety recommendations already distributed and available on the UVM emergency management website. We are hoping that the closing of campus for this 47 hour period will allow members of the community to safely deal with this situation and re-establish normal operations should damage or facility malfunctions occur.
