2008 RALLY AWARDS
The 2008 Rally Awards are set for Tuesday, May 6 at 7:30pm at the Flynn Theatre in downtown Burlington. The event is free and open to the public. In 2005, the University of Vermont Athletic Department established the Rally Awards, an all-sports celebration highlighting the accomplishments of the student-athletes at UVM. At the Rally Awards, each team's MVP is honored and six major awards are handed out to Vermont student-athletes. SUMMER CAMPS

SAVE THE DATE: Prior to the Vermont baseball game vs. Binghamton at Centennial Field on Sunday, May 4 (12:00pm) will be UVM Athletics Fan Appreciation Day to celebrate the entire 2007-08 athletic season. Free food will be available courtesy of Leonardo's Pizza and University Dining Services along with a beverage give-away compliments of Coca Cola. Special games and raffles also will held along with a special sale of UVM Athletics merchandise. Following the 1:00pm game with Bearcats, fans are invited to have a catch in the Centennial Field outfield.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE (6-5, 3-1 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont split its two games on the week, falling to Dartmouth, but bounced back with a key conference win over Albany.
QUICK HITS:
* Sophomore Sarah DeStefano (Eliot, Maine) scored the game-winning goal with 1.8 seconds remaining to lift UVM past Albany, 11-10. It was Vermont's first-ever win over the Great Danes.
* Junior Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario) collected a season-high eight draw controls to become the NCAA Division I all-time leader. She set the mark in 31 less games and begins the week with 228 career draw controls. She is also one goal shy of becoming the third Catamount to score 100 career goals. Millar enters the week having registered at least one point in 41 straight games, dating back to 2006, which is the fifth longest streak in the country.
* Freshman Megan MacDonald (Wayland, Mass.) scored a team-high four goals in the win over Albany. She has scored at least one goal in eight straight games, along with teammates Alison Haigh (Northborough, Mass.) and Sara Buxton (Northfield, Ill.)
* Vermont's three conference wins are the most in school history. In the nine years before head coach Jen Johnson arrived at UVM the Catamounts totaled five league wins. Since she took over in 2005, Vermont has totaled seven conference victories in her four-plus seasons.
WHO'S NEXT:
* Vermont hosts New Hampshire on Wednesday (April 9) at 3:00pm and then faces Stanford at the University at Albany on Saturday (April 12) at 12:00pm.

MEN'S LACROSSE (3-8, 1-1 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont earned a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Fairfield last Tuesday and dropped a 13-9 decision to Stony Brook in America East play on Saturday.
QUICK HITS:
* Freshman Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md.) scored seven goals and had a total of nine points on the week. Lichtfuss notched a hat trick in the win against Fairfield and scored the game winner with 1:52 remaining. He leads Vermont in scoring this season with 16 goals and 20 points.
* Senior Shay Cunningham (Southborough, Mass.) had five goals and six points last week. Cunningham recorded a hat trick in UVM's victory against Fairfield. He ranks third on the team in scoring this season with eight goals and 13 points.
* Junior Brandon Goodwyn (Bethesda, Md.) dished out three assists in the 9-8 win against the Stags. He leads the team with eight assists this season.
WHO'S NEXT:
* Vermont visits Marist on Tuesday (4/8) at 3:00pm before hosting Binghamton on Saturday (4/12) at 1:00pm. Saturday is Youth Lacrosse Day at Moulton Winder Field. All youth lacrosse players wearing their jersey receive free admission to the game. There also will be a post-game pass and catch with the Catamounts. Fans can also win a gift certificate to Mills and Greer if they purchase a media guide that has a Ryan Curtis signature inside.

BASEBALL (8-10, 3-1 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont opened its America East slate by taking three of four at UMBC last weekend. After dropping Friday's opener, the Catamounts outscored the Retrievers, 34-11, to win the next three contests.
QUICK HITS:
* Senior Miguel Magrass (West Roxbury, Mass.) remained hot at the plate with three doubles, two homers and seven RBI in the series. Magrass leads the Catamounts with 4 HR and 22 RBI.
* Senior Kyle Massie (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Justin Milo (Edina, Minn.) each went 7-for-16 (.468) in the four games against the Retrievers. Massie hit his first career homer, a grand slam, in a 17-4 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader and his bases loaded triple broke open Sunday's 13-5 victory. Milo on Sunday went 5-for-6 with two doubles and 2 RBI after hitting his third home run of the season on Friday.
* Senior Eric Thompson (Norwich, Conn.) went the distance to win Saturday's second game, 4-2. He scattered just five hits and struck out seven.
* Sophomore Ethan Paquette (West Burke, Vt.) hit safely in all four games last week to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He also drove in six runs against UMBC.
WHO'S NEXT:
* The Catamounts have three non-league doubleheaders in the coming week starting Tuesday at Siena scheduled for 2:00pm. Vermont has a four-game series at Division I Independent New Jersey Tech (NJIT) Saturday and Sunday at Bears and Eagles Stadium in Newark, N.J. Game one for both twinbills starts at noon.

SOFTBALL (6-17, 1-5 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont went 1-2 on the week in an America East series at Hartford. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Burlington, but were moved due to field conditions.
QUICK HITS:
* Senior Aimee Kern (Wrentham, Mass.) gave up only one earned run in the win and knocked in a pair at the plate. Kern went the distance and moved into first place all-time at Vermont in complete games (68), passing Katie Quinn '92. In the opener, a 2-0 loss, she matched a career-high with 14 strikeouts.
* Junior Jeanine Connolly (West Bridgewater, Mass.) delivered the big hit with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the sixth that broke a 2-2 tie in the Cats win.
* Junior Hayley Crosby (Cranberry, Pa.) went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly in the finale, as her long ball was her team best second of the season.
WHO'S NEXT:
* The Catamounts return to action on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Siena starting at 3:00pm that was rescheduled from April 1. Vermont will also play a doubleheader at Albany (2:00pm) the next afternoon and wraps up a busy week with a three-game set at Binghamton on April 12-13.

TRACK & FIELD
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont had a strong performance at the UNH Wildcat Invitational in its first outdoor meet in the Northeast this season.
QUCK HITS:
* Corinne DiPietro (Middleton, Mass.) led the women's squad, winning the javelin with a mark of 41.92m (137-06) and surpassed the qualifying mark for the ECAC Championships.
* Freshman Lindsey Guldin (Frackville, Pa.) also picked up a win for the Catamounts in the shot put. UVM went 1-2-3 in the event, led by Guldin's top throw of 12.27m (40-03.25). Senior Jaime Recore (Conway, Mass.) and Nichole Goodwin (Rome, N.Y.) placed second and third with marks of 12.13m (39-09.95) and 12.12 (39-09.25), respectively.
* Aaron Campbell (Bend, Ore.) won the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.91, just .01 off the IC4A qualifying mark, and placed fourth in the 200m.
* Sophomore Justin Scricca (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the 200 meters with a time of 22.23 and classmate Doug Masiey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) won the 5000 meters with a time of 15:23.85.

* Vermont returns to action on Saturday (April 12) at the Panther Invitational hosted by Middlebury College.
